One Hot Second: Stories about Desire
edited by Cathy Young (me!)
Yay! My first book project! Ready? Here's the flap copy:
"Anything can happen in one hot second. Secret crushes. Awkward dates. First love. First times.
"In this powerful collection, eleven acclaimed writers for teens capture the various expressions of desire,
from first
crushes to first times and all of the charged emotions in between. Here, a sleek new teammate becomes
more than a friend; a hopeful date feels his
evening unravel; a pale boy delivers a sweet but terrible kiss; a wise girl discovers the real
rules about love; one relationship
ends and another begins.
"Jennifer Armstrong, Sarah Dessen, Emma Donoghue, Nancy Garden, Angela Johnson, Victor Martinez, Norma Fox Mazer, Rachel
Vail, Rich Wallace, Ellen Wittlinger, and Jacqueline Woodson have crafted original stories that are as complex and provocative as
desire itself."
See? I told you a surprise was on its way! Order now through Powell's, Amazon, or BarnesandNoble.
Empress of the World
by Sara Ryan
Imagine a whole summer spent pursuing
your passions with other talented, gifted teens! Nicola Lancaster
can't wait to dive into the special archeology program she's chosen to take at the Siegel
Institute's Summer Program. Finally, she'll be able to sink into her dream and figure out if she
has what it takes to be a real archeologist someday. That's Nic -- sharp and focused; always the
observer, she keeps her pen, journal, and sketchbook ready to chronicle every movement and personality around her.
Ah... but despite her attention to detail, Nic has no idea how her life will be turned inside
out when she meets Battle -- the beautiful dancer from North Carolina. You're in for a mind-blowing treat if you come along with this vibrant, unusual
protagonist. Author Sara Ryan will dazzle you with fresh voices, witty interactions, and honest discovery.
Annie on My Mind
by Nancy Garden
This is the best story ever written about teenage love, and it just
happens to be about two young women. Very cool! Nancy Garden has
written other books -- including some mysteries and another more serious
novel with a lesbian protagonist called Lark in the Morning, but, IMHO,
this one is still her best.
